Cliques

Every school has them, weather we think so or not they do. Cliques! Some people care about them while others don't.

When you hear the word clique the common terms that come into your head are, jocks, geeks, preps, and  popular people, am I right? but little do you know there are so many more cliques out there. There are the overachievers, stoners, drama kids, Goths, band geeks and so many more. But does there have to be all of these cliques? or do we make them happen? Does social media affect how we see our peers? Why do we stereotype all these people? Why do we have to have "cliques?" Personally I think that my school has so many different cliques. The obvious ones would clearly be just our grades, senior, juniors, sophomores, and the freshman, but in my school each grade to me presents the cliques differently. Me being a junior, I think my class handles cliques very well actually. Yes we have our jocks, preps, popular kids, geeks, band geeks, Goths, stoners and dram kids, but I think that we kind of merge together at some point. Our jocks wont make fun of our geeks, well at least not in front of them like social media and movies play it out to be. We all kind of merge at least one time in our high school career. After all we are still trying to find ourselves.

Now do you think social media and movies has a role in the cliques you have at your school? In my school yes we have the same cliques as some of the movies out there but I don't think that they way that people are treated in the movies is how people at my school treat others. For example the movie Mean Girls, Lindsey Lohan and her "posy" pretty much "own" everyone in there school and everyone is afraid of them. The majority of people in my school have scene this movie and I don't believe that this movie has changed the way that we treated each other. But maybe in other school it affected them. I feel that it really depends on what school and the type of people you are around to determine how people are treated. As said in High School Musicals best song," Stick to the status quo!"

A timeline of High School.

High School the "best 4 years of your life." I believed it, you believed it we all believed it, but think again. High school starts off great. Freshmen year is a blast your in a new school, you might make some new friends, you might join some new clubs, you really get a feel for the school and you're so excited because its so new to you. But then out of no where, it hits you like a ton of bricks. Sophomore years still ok for you because your still kind of new to the school. But your second semester of sophomore year is when it all starts, and from there on out its all down hill.

Junior year I have to say is the most stressful year yet. Although I am only a junior and haven't been through the whole applying to collage thing yet, I can still guarantee that I will look back on my 4 years at high school and say junior year was the Your GPA at the end of your junior year is what is sent to collages. So pretty much if you have a poor GPA your in for a long run. Junior year your guidance councilor is going to throw all of these classes at you that you have to take, and they aren't going to be easy because they want to boost your GPA. And because you are taking all of these hard classes, you can kiss your sleep schedule good bye. You will be taking all of these honors and AP classes that sleep will be the last thing on your mind. On top of all of the hard courses you will be taking and the lack of sleep that you will have, you will have to juggle multiple activitys because remember kids "collages don't only look at your grades, they really look at the activitys you participate in, so really get invoved" said every guidance councilor ever. On top of that aswell you will have your family that you eill have to deal with weather good or bad you always need time for them. You're family might think that they are helping you by pushing you (also known as yelling at you) but its not its just making thinks a whole lot worse then they have to be. So with you not having a lot of sleep being stressed with your grades and school needless to say when your parents yell at you you're going to blow up, and when you blow up it will make your parents really upset with you then you wont talk to them for a bit because everyone will just be so mad. Then because you are mad at them it drags on to the next day when your with your friends then you get in fights with your friends too and then there is just so much drama about this and that, so you can add all of that to your plate..... Needless to say you will have a mental break down.

Junior year crying will honestly be your best friend. As much as the guidance councilors say "it gets better" trust me it doesn't, I can assure you of that.

High School

Everyone says that High School is the best 4 years of you life, is it or is it all talk? So many people don't know all the behind the scenes things that happen to every day High School students, they don't know all the DRAMA that effects the students lives. My blog is all about how High School drama affect the students school work, afterschool activity's, sports, there overall High School experience, and if the drama that happened in high school made an impact on how and what they did after it was all over. I am very interested in this topic because personally I have a lot of drama in my life, weather its family, friends or school drama and I want to know how other not only deal with this, but for upperclassmen if it affected what they did after high school and even how they acted after. I want to find out from other schools if they have the same drama as my school and how it affects people there as well. Do other schools have the same "clicks" as my school? I want to know how it all starts. Most of you are probably thinking "how does this impact the world today?" Well for starters if what happened to you in high school stays with you and changed you, it changed the world. You are no longer the same person you where in high school and if you changed then the world changed. Who knows maybe one of you could be the next president and because you change the world could change. Although high school drama could be a sore subject for some people, every one should really be caring about it. Many teen deaths happen because of drama and you don't even know it. Many teens are mentally unstable because of drama that happens in school. When teens are mentally unstable it will affect them when they grow up and they will not be the same. When someone is mentally unstable there is no controlling there emotions. Although many of you think high school drama is no big deal, it could be a big deal for someone else.

FACT!

Just some last post humor!!

friends

I can assure you right now that your friends in high school will not last. Maybe that one friend, but the day you go off to collage you most likely will not be friends with anyone from high school. You will always have that one friend who even after high school will still be living in there high school years because they weren't successful with whatever that chose to do after it all ended. In an interview with my brother Austin Avanesian he said "I am so thankful that I went to a small school where not a lot of people from my high school went. I am also so glad that I really don't talk to anyone from high school any more because I am just a new person. I do only have one friend that has been through it all with me from high school that I am still in contact with, but other than that I am perfectly happy with all of my new and true friends that I made in collage." Many kids in high school are very "fake" we all know it, and we all are. "In high school you feel as though you need to impress everyone and be what society wants you to be, but once you hit collage you can finally be who you want to be with no one judging you. People finally grow up in collage and for the most part all the pointless arguments, and the drama stops." said Austin again.

I cant wait for collage and to get out of all this drama, and stereotyping that people these days put on teens in high school.

If only this was true.....

Good deeds ( collaboration)

On April 7,2017 will mark the 11 year that good deeds day will be expanding there circles of good. This is when thousands of people all ages come and volunteer to help people in need, and do good deeds throughout the country.  Good Deeds Day was initiated in 2007 by businesswoman and philanthropist, Shari Arison, and launched and organized by Ruach Tova (NGO), a part of The Ted Arison Family Foundation. They only started with 7,000 volunteers and only 1 country and in 2016 they expanded to 1,500,000 volunteers and 75 country's. that's amazing.

Good deeds day impacts so many many people, a lot of them being high school students. Many schools around the world have already made such an impact. Over 60 high school students participated in a huge dance marathon in Toronto, Canada to raise money for "SickKids Hospital" they where even honored to have a patient form the hospital participate and share her story. 100 students at the International School Villa Amalienhof participated in various activities on Good Deeds Day for their community. Each class got to organize there own good deed to do, recycling things and or planting flowers. At George  mason university 150 volunteers organized Good Deeds Day events and projects for 1,000 participants and 25 for a Doing Good Fair that empowered student organizations, university departments, community organizations, and individuals to share their causes of choice with a wider audience. These are only a few good deeds performed there are thousands of more.

So this year please participate in good deeds day along with many others in the world. You can do it alone or in a group. Just work to make our world a better place.

Why Motivation?

Motivation, something we all really need as your coming to the end of your first semester. What a stressful semester it has been. All the projects, all the tests, all the homework, and most of all, all of the blogs. If I do say so myself this semester was quite rough for me. I really didn't slack that much I just procrastinated. For example I got so caught up with everything that was going on with other classes that I had completely forgotten about this blog. Which comes to the reason as to why I have so many motivational quotes recently throughout my blog. Inserting these motivational/ funny quotes was not only to get me motivated to get through this semester, but to also bring some humor into the blog and to hopefully give you a laugh and some motivation. These quotes that I picked I pick very selectively, I needed to find some that high school students would understand, which was easy considering that I am a high school student. I wanted to find things that would speak to us, and to actually motivate us and give us a laugh. All the teachers and the parents in the world think that the "motivation" they give us speaks to us, but most likely it goes in one ear and out the other. Or what they think there motivation is, to us its yelling.

I guess what I am  trying to say is that you might think that I was posting all of these just to fill the space, but really I was just trying to bring humor to it. And most of all, I think I needed the motivation from them and a good laugh.

Homework

Homework what every student thinks is ridiculous but most teachers even after school want to stress students. "Homework is pointless, we are in school for 8 hours then you give us another 2-3 hours of homework, that's rediculous" said Alyssa Slade junior at Tantasqua. It's not only you Alyssa many others not only in our school but outside of our school think that, and they are making a difference about it. In 2013/14 the Fentress County School District in Tennessee announced that it would enforce a district-wide ban on graded homework assignments. Administrators say that how many students had the lack of supplies at home to do there homework. 65-70% of students needed funding for lunch, so it was settled that students shouldn't get penalized for not doing take home assignments. “We don’t want kids to be unfairly penalized for their work because they don’t have the resources or support they need at home,” explained Randy Clark, Fentress County Schools’ Curriculum and Instruction Supervisor. This means that now homework is not counted twords the students grade. There is a lot of  controversy bet eww no having homework and not. Sixth grade teacher  Tammy Linder, Is one who doesn't agree with this new policy. “Students have not had that daily homework practice in any subject that keeps the concepts ‘alive’ and moving in their brains, so that means that much of the practice time and teaching time and testing time had to come during the class time each day,” Linder says. The principal of Gaithersburg Elementary in Maryland decided to ask students to spend only 30 minutes on reading a night. This debate between homework or not is a huge deal, weather it will be brought to order or not, we may never know. What do you think should we have homework?Xoxo~ Tanty girl.

Something on social media is true!

FINALS

I just said that stress was a high school students biggest fear, I was wrong..... FINALS should be your biggesr fear. People make them sound not that bad for all the freshmen, but for all of you freshmen who go to bed at reasonable time and who don't get below a B+  just get ready for your first ever high school final. You will have studied so much that you forgot to sleep the  you just get so tired for your first final, or for some they kill there first final then they get to there next final and you realize that your brain is done and you can't comprehend anymore. People say as you get old the FINALS get harder, the material might get harder, but the way you approach them gets a whole lot eaiser. You eventually just train your brain for multiple long tests right after each other, with a lack of sleep and the thoughts that this test could possible ,she or break your grade. I'm going to be honest you freshmen will most likely choke under the pressure of your first final. But for once I am telling you they do get better, well the way you work with them they do.

High school student in a nutshell

Stress a high schoolers worse nightmare. Being a high school student myself. Sign stressed out is the worse, it just makes the situation so much worse. And for you freshman and sophomores who don't think stress affects you that much we'll think again because just wait it will. You don't just get the stress of school like oh, what's my GPA, what are my grades, am I going to get into collage, how's my social life been, have I even showered this week? These are all things that you will already be stressing about, and on top of it you will be stressing about a job, do you have enough extra curricular stop get into collage, are my parents mad at me? And much more. Stress will then lead to loss of sleep, a poor social life, and because you will be so tired from no sleep you will pretty much ruin your relationships and grades all at the same time. And people will still continue to "not stress.... but still make sure your GPA is high, that you get into collage, that you keep your friends close and your family closer." And your just like ya I got all of that!
So for all of you who think it's easy to cope with stress and for all you parents who think being a high school student these days isn't hard, ya you try it.

All so true. It does change you completely. So many people who go through high school turn into something that they would neve want to be, without even realizing. I know that I have changed a lot, and to my parents not in a good way. There's a certain point ina teens life where they grow up and evidently change. Weather they realize it or not they do, either for the better or the worse. Peer pressure is a huge thing, and that's why many students change. They feel like they have to impress and be someone they aren't. But they shouldn't because you are who you are and you shouldn't change who you are just to impress people in high school or anytime for that matter.

sleep, WE NEED IT!

Sleep Deprivation, "a sufficient lack of restorative sleep over a cumulative period so as to cause physical or psychiatric symptoms and affect routine performances of tasks." says the free dictionary by farlax. Teens are suppose to be getting 8-81/2 hours of sleep per night. A study done by the the national sleep foundation said that only 15% of teens get 81\2 hours of sleep on school nights. In an interview with junior Meghan Meserole she said "I get a maximum of 5-6 hours maybe a night. I just have so much homework all the time and I just have to get it done." And me personally by the time i get home from all my actvitys and get my homework done I get about 5 hours of sleep. Not getting enough sleep can affect your learning. You may actually start forgetting important things like names and numbers. Lack of sleep can also contribute to acne. Lack of sleep doesn't only affect you mentally, but also physically.

If you scroll on this link it shows how sleep loss can make teens do risky things.

We all love sleep, so take the time and SLEEP!

LOL.... true

The media makes high school to look a lot better then what it is. We all thought it. When we walked in the first day of freshmen year we all though that high school was going to be some great experience where we were just going to have a blast, and not have any mental break downs, and we were all going to live haply ever after with that high school sweet hearts. But no its just how media portrays it. And now looking at it all from a different perspective, I want my blog to show what high school really is. Don't always believe what you watch, and if you don't believe me just wait and see.

depression

5400 teens commit suicide in one year. the rate of teen suicide from the ages of 15-24 have tripled, and suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death from that age group as well. Many teens try and commit mostly because of untreated depression. Depression has many different groups, Major depressive disorder, where it can last years, Dysthymic disorder, last at least one year, bipolar, mood swings high to low, and adjustment disorder, only a short term episode. Common things that trigger depression are school stress, divorced parents, peer pressure, genetics, romance, and financial troubles. If you fee that you might be depressed please go speak to someone, a school guidance councilor, a parent, a friends, just someone you trust because you don't want it to get worse. Only 1 in 5 teens get help. So please even if you aren't sure talk to someone because that someone could make a difference.

Your Safe Haven

Safe Haven, a place where you go to escape, a place of security. We all have one weather we know it or not. Some of us use it more than others and some of ours are more personal then others, but we all have them. Mine personally is my dance studio. Although I I don't always love being there, when I walk in and dance there's nothing stopping me and nothing on my mind. Same with my best friend Kayla Fortuna. Kayla has had quite a rough life. Her parents where married at a young and and when kayla was 15 they got a divorce and she had to act as a mother figure to her little sister, but she would come to dance to forget about it. It was her safe haven. This year recently she was unable to dance and you could really tell that it had affected her. She most certainly not the same girl I knew. Without dance she just held everything in and would have sperts where she would just blow up because she had so much going on and no where to let it out. "Im really glad I was able to come back to dance I feel like myself again I can just come here and let it all out" said Kayla. Although she just came back a week ago, it is already making a difference on how she acts. "I kind of hate being at dance, but I don't know where I would be without it." I can personally say i feel the same way Kayla.

What's your safe haven? We all have one.

Parents

Parents... you have to love them, but boy do they make things so much more difficult. My parents are completely guilty of that. They always think that they are heliping and making the situation better, but they aren't they are just making it worse. No matter what i'll love them but sometimes I just want them to get out of my business and my life. They always think they know what's best for me, yeah sometimes they do, but I have to make some decisions on my own. My parents never let me make my own mistakes and they treat me like a baby, im 17. Im a 17 year old girl who has never even spoken to a boy becuse my parents are so stricked im scared to say that i am talking to anyone. I can deal with them being stricked, but what I really don't understand is why they try and control my life. My parents have been pretty much telling me what I have to do with my life after high school, but I am not even sure what i want to do I have been between so many things. My dad wants me to do law where my mom wants me to do business, and then there's just me who has no clue what I want to do with my life. I have also been pretty much killing myself to play soccer for my dad for the last two years. Yes I did like soccer for a while, but then I just got sick of it but I just don't want to dissipoint him with quitting. I have pretty much been living my dads life that he never got to live for the last two years. Now with school they think they know what's best for me too. They think they know how I learn and how I comprehend things but once again THEY DON'T.

I love my parents and i know that they are just trying to help, but sometimes they really do just make the situations worse.

Student council , something that most kids think only smart prepy kids do. You are so wrong. Student council is such a great thing that no mattter who and how you act your always welcomed with open arms. Student council isn't just somehing that looks good on a collage resume, it's something that will teach you lessons that you will keep for a life time.

Some of you think that student council is boring and that all you do is work and there's no fun and its very serious, but really student council is "one of the most fun clubs I have been in here at tantasqua" said senior Cole Amadio. For those of you who know cole, knows that he's really not big into clubs and things like that but he truely loves student council. Cole is a regular high school boy who has had the same friends for years and isn't really new, but to show how diverse our council is, our E-Board president Meaghan Kelly is a school choice student who was very shy freshmen year. "The minute i joined student council my life truely changed. It changed me for the better and i am completely thankful for that."

Next time you think that you don't belong somewhere or you even try and stereotype student council, just try it go to a meeting and see what its like before you think that its "not cool."

P.S Tantasqua student council meets every other tuesday :)

differernt pep rallys

Pep rally's, what most people at my school really don't like. Our pep rally's are quite boring because no one really participates  in them. Why I have no clue because if they actually participated in them maybe they would be fun. Its really sad that no one participates and then they complain about them not being fun. Student council puts a lot of work into them and all our student body does is gets mad because its not what they want. It is called STUDENT Council for a reason and we take input from everyone. If you all want to complain about it being poor then make a difference and step out of your comfort zone and change it.

This is a pic of what my schools pep rally looks like. It looks kind of boring right!
At other schools I know pep rally's aren't like this and there student body really participates. Here is a clip form Dreyfoos High school pep rally https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6jyiHdCBoQ
its just looks so much fun.

Pep rally's are suppose to be something that gets us all hyped and excited for everything. I just wish my school would participate more.

Be Good to People

Be Good to People is a club at my school that goes around and does good deeds no only in our school but outside of it. currently they are in the process of an great fundraiser for homeless people called the sock drive. The sock drive has been going on for 2 years now and has been a complete success. The sock drive acts as a competition between classes to see who can bring in the most socks for homeless people. You can bring in any type of sock, and the class who has the most socks in the end wins a special prize, and the thought that they just helped so many people who really need it.

"The sock drive is one of the most successful fundraisers that Be Good to People has ever done, and it has been awesome to be apart of it. Last year we raised 2000 pairs of socks, and the fundraiser only went on for 2 weeks. It was awesome to see all of our student body come together and help people who really need it. This year we plan to raise 3000 pairs of socks, we can do it Tantasqua I know we can." said Alicia a member of Be Good to People.

The sock drive is a great fundraiser for a great cause. So everyone please bring in your socks to help support not only the homeless, but a club here at your school.

Different schools

Not every school is like your school. Each school has there own "thing" that there school is known for. I belive that my school is known for sports. My school is really into football, basketball, and Lacross. Although they don't have the best records there are other sports in my school that have really taken off. For instance, our indoor and outdoor boys track team have been undefeted for 3 years now and is hoping to make it 4 this year. Tantasqua Track and Field is really well known in our districts, along with our swim and soccer programs. My school is mostly known for sports, what's your school known for?

In an interview with Jr from Middlebrough High School, Aaron Empey when asked what he thinks his school is known for his response was "I think my school is known for Student Council. At MASC we are very well known, but we have our Principal Mr.Brannigan for that considering he is one of the leaders on the MASC board." Thank you Aaron for that response.

In another interview with Sr Jenny Devoux from Hopkington High School, when aked the same question as Aaron, she said "I beliee that my school is known for our academics. Hopkington is ranked #5 of top academic public school." Thanks Jenny

3 different schools with 3 different ways that they are looked at. One of them being the "sports" school, one being the "involved" school, and the other being the "smart" school. But just because these schools are known for there "thing" doesn't mean they aren't good at what the other schools have. So don't say your school doesn't have a "thing" every school has a thing and it might not only be one.
